Access to Higher Education Diploma (Business Studies) – Day – Level 3

The diploma offers you the chance to study a range of dynamic topics exploring current approaches to business that will help you to develop skills in critical thinking, close reading, evidence-based research and analysis, and academic referencing.

You will study a range of units that will make up to a total of 60 credits for your Access to HE diploma.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.30am – 3.30pm

We offer flexible and family friendly hours to fit around busy lifestyles, well-suited to mature learners who have been out of education for a while. Your timetable will be made up of subject-based lessons and sessions to introduce and develop academic skills. You will also have opportunity for regular 1:1 reviews with your personal tutor to discuss your progress on the course.

Applicants must be 19 years or older andmust hold certificates in English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE Grade 4 or C; Level 2 Functional Skills).

You must complete a successful interview and submit a written personal statement explaining your interests in business or related subjects, relevant skills and commitment to study on the course.

If you are not yet ready to study the Access Diploma with us, we offer a Level 2 Adult Diploma in Skills for Business.

This is a short 14-week course where you will explore introductory business units, and have the chance to complete Level 2 English and Maths with our Adult and Community Learning department alongside your studies. You will be able to progress onto the Access to HE Diploma in Business on completion.

You will be assessed on a continuous basis, both formally and informally throughout the course.

Assessment methods will be flexible and creative and will echo those used in higher education. You will complete work in forms ranging from written essays and research reports, short presentations, financial and marketing plans, as well as other documents reflecting business environments.

The majority of students progress onto a Higher Education course in a range of areas after completing their Access diploma.

The Access diploma qualifies you for a degree place at university in the UK, including foundation degrees, HND and degree apprenticeship programmes, leading to well recognised professional further training.

Past students have progressed onto one of Middlesbrough College’s Open University Level 5 Foundation Degrees and then completed the Level 6 top-up in: Business Management, Airport and Airline Management, Hospitality Management, Social and Community Studies. Click here for more information.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
