Live Well, Learn Well Project Officer

“I work as part of the Live Well Learn Well Team at Middlesbrough College as a Project Officer, and have been working at the College for six years across various roles including ALS, technician work and teaching.

“My role involves getting non-activity students into sport through enrichment programmes, giving students opportunities that they may never have tried – this includes horse riding, ice skating, rock climbing and Go-Karting as well as sports such as football, netball and table tennis.

“Alongside this, I am also the Basketball Coach and Director here at the College and have won the AOC League Title twice in 5 years.

“I fell in love with basketball when I was 14, and it has been my passion ever since – winning 12 National Titles along the way. I’ve played, coached and am now the Chairman at the Tees Valley Mohawks Basketball Club which is fast becoming one of the biggest basketball clubs in the UK. 

“I fell into my career in basketball after my brother started playing at school. I was a footballer previously, playing for the region and local clubs, however once I picked up basketball at the local Youth Club there has been no looking back!

“The Tees Valley Mohawks Basketball Club hold various National League records including winning the National Trophy 5 years in a row from 1999-2004, something that still hasn’t been beaten, and winning the treble in back-to-back seasons, which to this day is also a record.

“I also had the opportunity to meet the PM, Tony Blair at a school in Sedgefield due to the club’s success and the community work we completed with the Reach for Success Project – a basketball initiative which provided roles models to areas of deprivation, backed by Cleveland Police. 

“I really enjoy working at Middlesbrough College, the staff are great to work alongside and it’s a fantastic working environment.

“Whilst not at work or running my Basketball Club, I enjoy going for walks, watching the latest TV shows and spending time with my kids.”
