Meet Nick Tuner, our Head of Distance Learning and Strategic Partnerships!
Nick has worked in retail in varying roles whilst he completed his Business Management degree via distance learning. After successfully completing his degree, Nick progressed into learning and development and apprenticeships.
COVID has had a big effect on the training industry, and unfortunately the arm of the company that Nick worked in was sold during the first lockdown. Not to be defeated, Nick briefly moved back into Retail Management throughout the majority of the pandemic, however he knew that he wanted to resume his career in education and training.
Nick said: “I had long held ambitions to work at the College, given its profile and importance to the local community. So when the job arose to look after distance learning, it felt like a great opportunity to join and get involved with a growing sector of learning.”
Nick was successful and was appointed as the Distance Learning co-ordinator at Middlesbrough College! He said: “I’ve been here about three weeks now – everything is very new and I am still growing accustomed to the role. My vision for the future is that distance learning will expand into a key part of Middlesbrough College’s offer, allowing for more flexibility and an enhanced online experience for learners.”
Nick has now progressed to head up all distance learning and strategic partnerships for the Adult and Community team.
“I’m passionate about distance learning and the benefits it has. As someone who has used this type of platform to enhance my career and skills, I enjoy conveying this to learners and seeing the materials used positively to improve knowledge and skills in the area they are studying.
“My advice to anyone thinking of applying for a role at Middlesbrough College is to go for it! I’ve been amazed by the scale of the College and the endless amount of opportunities. Everyone’s really welcoming and ready to help you succeed, so I would definitely recommend it.”
