Nicholas Richins

Meet Joinery Lecturer, Nicholas Richins.

“I started my journey at Middlesbrough College in 2018 as a carpentry and joinery student. After completing this course, I gained an apprenticeship with RB Construction where I was working alongside the team in a workshop as a joiner.

“After completing my apprenticeship, I was still working at RB Construction when I heard about a role in the Construction department of Middlesbrough College had become available. At that moment I knew I had to apply, not only would I be going back to where I studied, I would be forging myself a career in teaching too.

“I was extremely excited when I found out I had got the job, I have only been here 4 weeks, but I have already made some really meaningful friendships throughout the College and look forward to teaching the joinery students I work with how I was taught a few years ago.

“The environment we work in warming and comforting, it’s so much different to being in a wood workshop. If anyone was looking to apply for a role at Middlesbrough College I would say ‘just do it!’, I took the risk and have not looked back since.

“In my spare time I am absolutely football mad, I play 5 a side and for the Kader Club which I really enjoy. I have been playing since I was 12 and I plan on carrying on for the foreseeable.”
