Jack Laidlaw
HE Cross-College Coordinator and Programme Leader
Jack has been awarded a HEA senior fellowship! He is the first person at Middlesbrough College to be awarded this title- a huge congratulations to Jack!
“I had a strong interest in music from a young age, stemming from my Dad being in bands as I was growing up. When I turned 15, I decided it was my turn!
“After several years of playing shows with my friends, I decided to apply for the BSc (Hons) Sound and Music Technology course at Middlesbrough College. Just 12 months after graduating, I started teaching on the course!
“Over time we added new modules to the course, and today we now offer two additional music courses. I had noticed a gap in the market for an AV Technology degree so it’s great to be able to offer this at the College.
“We’re thrilled to have developed fantastic links with companies around the UK, which always appeals to prospective students when looking into what we offer.
“I really enjoy my role and it’s been so interesting to see the area from different perspectives. I’m very passionate about everything relating to technology, sound and imagery which pretty much sums up my role!
“Standout moments would have to be seeing our students succeed and having the opportunity to speak at events – the company, Jacob’s caught wind of what was happening at Middlesbrough College and approached us with offers of work experience. We’re even looking at offering a higher apprenticeship later down the line.
“When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my family (my 3 year old son is already becoming quite fond of music!), going to the cinema and being in the outdoors!”
