Eve McGeady

Eve is an English lecturer working in the Progression Studies department at Middlesbrough College.

“I studied for a degree in English at Newcastle University and after I graduated, I decided to move to London to forge a career in the fashion industry.

“When I moved to London, I started studying visual merchandising at the Fashion Retail Academy. I was also successful in gaining a role at Dr Martens and I worked as part of their visual merchandising team.

“After working in the fashion industry, I decided that I wanted a change of career as I really wanted to spend my life helping others and helping my community, so I moved back home to Teesside.

“I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in education, and I found an hourly paid role as an English specialist at Middlesbrough College. I absolutely love working at the College- it’s a fantastic community to be part of. Everyone here is lovely and supportive.

“The College are now funding me through my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and Training. I’m delighted that the College have offered me this opportunity to progress my career and I can’t wait to be fully qualified! My role has changed slightly since starting here as I’m now a teacher in service, teaching English and other topics in the Progression Studies department.

“I’ve really enjoyed studying my teacher training course at Middlesbrough College!  My tutors are so helpful and supportive- I would recommend studying here if you are an aspiring teacher.

“It’s been fantastic to work alongside my course too as I’ve been able to put everything I’m learning into practice in the classroom. The team here really encourage you to get stuck in and to throw yourself in to all situations, which has been excellent for my development as a teacher.

“My advice to anyone who is considering pursuing a career in teaching is to go for it! It doesn’t matter what you’ve done before as you can bring your life experiences into your role, and they will help you! It’s never too late to start and to follow your passions.

“I can’t wait to see what the future holds and I’m excited about taking the next step in my career at Middlesbrough College.”
