Cher Griffiths

Meet Cher Griffiths! Cher works in our Computing department as a Lecturer and Programme Lead for FD and BSc.

“I completed my degree and masters at Teesside University in Computing and went into industry as a Website Developer working on high profile websites and email campaigns for companies such as British Airways and River Island.

“I really enjoyed working in the industry but something felt missing and I wanted to make a bigger impact in my career. A friend pointed out to me that Middlesbrough College were recruiting for a Lecturer in Computing and that I should apply. At first I was unsure as I had no teaching experience but I always knew at some point in my career I wanted to go into teaching and after thinking it over this role felt like a natural step for me.

“I have now worked at the College for 12 years and I have progressed so much when I look back at when I first started. I have since developed the HE courses and I’m now Programme Lead for our FD and BSc.

“Teaching can be a very challenging role but it is also one of the most rewarding. A recent highlight was seeing my first group of BSc Computing Graduates complete their course in lockdown, and have seven students achieve a First! This was a hugely emotional moment as those students had studied with me since they were 16 starting at Level 3 and now they have a degree and are working in the industry.

“I work alongside an amazing team of people who are focused, dedicated, student lead and most importantly a geek at heart. We have a family approach and are certainly in it together.

“Cher jokes that she has no free time due to it all being taken up by her two young daughters.”
