Andrew Harland

Meet Andrew Harland, Lecturer in Sport.

“I originally trained and worked as an Electrician but decided I wanted to go to University and retrain in something that I am passionate about. I’ve always loved sport and was involved in coaching and personal training, so when I saw that Middlesbrough College were offering a HE Sports Science Strength & Conditioning course I knew I had to apply.

“Once I had graduated an opportunity came up at Middlesbrough College to teach and I decided to go for it. That was around six months ago and I’m thoroughly enjoying it! It’s a great feeling to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to students and help set them up for the workplace. Teaching is an extremely rewarding career, it brings some challenges with it but I think that’s what makes it exciting, no two days are the same.

“The support I’ve had at Middlesbrough College being a new member of staff has been excellent! My colleagues have been nothing but supportive and welcoming which has helped me settle in so quickly.

“In my spare time when I am not coaching I like to go and watch Middlesbrough Football Club and in the summer months I spend a lot of time playing cricket.”
