We sat down with Alan Geddes, Employer Engagement Officer at Middlesbrough College!
Alan joined the team in November 2024 to support the delivery of Skills Bootcamps to employers across the Tees Valley. He said: “It’s my role to work with local businesses to find out what skills gaps they might have, explore opportunities to upskill or grow their teams, and go back to them with a training solution that meets their requirements.
“The great thing about Skills Bootcamps is that they’re government-funded – either 90% for SMEs or 70% for larger businesses – so employers have a unique opportunity to upskill or grow the workforce without impacting their bottom line.”
Alan brings a wealth of experience from his 25-year career in commercial radio, where he worked as a Business Development Manager for stations like TFM, Metro, Heart and Smooth, where he supported businesses across Teesside with radio solutions. He said: “I’ve worked with Tees Valley businesses throughout my entire career and it’s great to continue working with them in this new role, just in a different capacity!”
He moved on from commercial radio to join the MFC Foundation as their Events & Community Fundraising Coordinator, which is where he started collaborating with Middlesbrough College. He said: “The College seemed like such a positive working environment, and everyone is always smiling! I’m really excited for opportunities to grow in the role.
“I’ve been made to feel welcome from my very first day – the staff here are immense!”
