Overview

This course is modular based and will allow you to explore new and existing technologies with a mixture of theoretical and practical skills, developed to enhance your learning experience. You will study health and safety, electrical principles, process measurement and control, engineering measurement, electrical principles, maths, control hydraulics and pneumatics. You will also gain employability skills in our STEM Centre. You can choose to study this course for two years to achieve the Extended Diploma.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 vocational qualification and /or four GCSEs at grade 4/5 (C) or above that must include maths, English and science.

All assessments are by way of internally set assignments or time constrained tests per module

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto the Higher National Certificate in Instrumentation Operations at Middlesbrough College. After completing the Higher National Certificate students can progress onto the Higher National Diploma and then complete the BEng (Hons) Engineering top-up degree. 

You can progress on to the Level 4 HNC Electrical Electronic Engineering or Level 4 HNC Instrumentation and Control Engineering dependent on the level of achievement and interview or study a degree in electrical or instrument engineering.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
