Overview

This course provides the essential knowledge and skills for MET technicians working on light and light-goods vehicles in all types of garages and dealerships. The learning programme involves studying the theoretical and practical aspects of the role.

You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Accident Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (for MET). This learning programme qualification is based upon IMI Sector Skills Council's National Occupational Standards for Accident Repair Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET) route.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved the Vehicle Fitting Principles- Level 2 qualification.

You will be assessed through practical tasks, online testing and written assignments (coursework).

You can gain employment in the motor vehicle body repair industry.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience.We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you will either have to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or pay a Full Cost tuition fee for this course.

Motor Vehicle students will have access to our fully-equipped motor vehicle service unit which is based on main dealer standards. Here, they will gain practical skills in a wide variety of vehicles using up-to-date equipment and diagnostic tools and develop theoretical knowledge using custom built training rigs and interactive resources.
