The course content matches that of the first year of the Fd Health, Care and Social Care. It has been designed to enhance student employability, providing excellent outcomes in either employment or progression to professional study. There is a significant vocational focus to the programme and a range of work experiences and/or placement settings are available to you for development of learning in practice.

Last year thirty two of our students applied for different University courses via UCAS. The following offers were received:

You will develop an understanding of the theory underpinning care practice, which will enhance the quality of care you provide for your clients either in work or on placement. The content of the curriculum is strongly influenced by the principles of wellbeing and prevention and the recognition that an individual, their family, and/or, carer must be enabled to make decisions regarding their own care.

Modules offerred may vary. 

Modules will include:

  • Work-Based Learning: Health and Social Care Practice
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Individuals
  • Academic Study Skills and Digital Literacy
  • Health and Wellbeing in Context
  • September- May

    2-3 days per week. Plus an additional day in a relevant placement setting.

    Entry requirements

    You must have achieved an appropriate level 3 qualification (NVQ3, BTEC Award, A level, Access or relevant T Level) which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject.
    • You are also required to have GCSE passes at grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English and maths.
    • Related work experience is preferable but not essential.
    • Acceptance for the programme conditional upon a successful Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check) and interview.

    You are assessed through formative assessments to help develop your academic skills as well as several forms of summative assessment including assignments, examinations, presentations, portfolio work, case studies, workbooks and projects.

    You will also be assessed through a work-based e-portfolio demonstrating practice development achieved within the workplace/placement.

    Our students follow careers as support workers or assistant/ associate posts within the health and social care sector. There is also an opportunity to progress to the FD Health, Care and Social Care qualification delivered at Middlesbrough College. Students can also progress to vocational degree programmes such as social work or nursing.

    Fees payable directly to Middlesbrough College, £6,900 per year.
