Overview

This Preparation for Adulthood course has been designed to address the needs of learners working at Entry Level 1to Entry Level 3 and in particular those with learning difficulties and disabilities. The qualification ensures that all students are given the same opportunities to access appropriate and relevant education and meaningful work experience to improve life chances. It provides a foundation for lifelong learning focusing on transferable social and life skills which are essential for living and working in the community. There are also a variety of creative enrichment activities.

Work will include:
Good health – Physical wellbeing, healthy Eating, how to plan a healthy meal and diet, developing emotional resilience, who to go to for support if needed.


Independence –Travel training, living independently, having options and making choices, looking after yourself and your home.


Employment and Training. - The opportunity to develop real life work related experiences and voluntary work.


Community Inclusion – Making friends, taking part in activities, accessing the community.
You will also work towards a qualification in English and Maths as well as developing IT skills.

September - June

Entry requirements

You will be assessed on your suitability to enrol onto this course by the Progression Studies Team.

You will be assessed through a portfolio of work.

You can progress from an Award at Entry Level 1 to a Certificate at Entry level 3.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further education.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Explore Life Skills

Life Skills students will be joining a small, self-contained community where they can develop a range of skills including writing, independence, and employment progression. Students have access to the ALS Hub, with quiet study and social spaces and specialist facilities, and can get involved in a range of projects such as the community café.
