Overview

The course consists of a range of practical and theoretical work, covering a holistic approach to sport and exercise sciences, all which prepares you for higher education. You will cover a range of units including Anatomy, Physiology, Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing, Psychology, Biomechanics, Sports Injuries and Sports Massage You will also complete Fitness Instruction qualifications alongside the main programme. You can study this course for two years to achieve the Extended Diploma.

September - June

Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, with one day per week for work experience and/or independent study.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved five GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, which must include English language, maths and science.

You will be assessed through a variety of different methods, including assignments, presentations, practical observations, and external examination. There are typically 2-3 assessments per unit and students will be awarded a pass, merit, or distinction depending on the quality of work produced.

University opportunities
Past students have progressed to study degrees in sports therapy with rehabilitation, sports coaching, sport science, physical education, education and strength and conditioning, physiotherapy.


Career opportunities
Career opportunities include outdoor instructors, outdoor leaders, primary and secondary education, sport science, sports coaching and nutrition, therapy and psychologist.

Sports students will learn theoretical based study in the classroom, whilst taking part in a range of sport and fitness activities. Taught by specialist tutors and coaches, many of which are ex professionals in their field, you'll benefit from fantastic facilities including an AstroTurf pitch, a strength and conditioning suite and a physiology lab.
