Overview

This course will provide education and training for you if you wish to pursue a career in health or social care. It will provide the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification and allow you to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for
successful performance in working life. You will study human growth and development, equality and diversity, safeguarding, working in health and social care, health and well-being, nutrition, communication. You will also undertake a mandatory work placement to develop your skills and knowledge within the sector.

The English and maths qualification that you will study is dependent on your current attainment.

September – June
3 to 4 days per week in college

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 1 vocational qualification and /or 4 GCSEs at grade 4-2.

If you have a grade 3 (D) or below in GCSE English and/or maths you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme.

All work is assessed as coursework to include written assignments, posters, practical and online tasks.

On successful completion of this course, you can seek employment in the care sector or progress to an apprenticeship.

To progress to a level 3 qualification you will need to achieve an overall grade B, grade 4 in maths and English GCSE, completion of block placement with satisfactory feedback and an overalll positive report from your personal tutor.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
