Overview

This course is designed to give you the skills and understanding required to work within the fitness industry as a personal trainer. You will design and manage a range of fitness programmes whilst motivating and communicating effectively with clients. You will also study theoretical units relating to anatomy, physiology and the circulation and respiratory system. You will analyse nutritional programmes and develop plans for the clients.

You will study modules in applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness, principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health, understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions, encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients programme design and delivery for personal training and professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers.

Entry requirements

To access this course you must hold a Level 2 in Gym or Fitness Instructing and this course is the direct progression route from the Active IQ Level 2 Gym Instructing course, this course is designed to qualify you to work as a personal trainer.

The course is assessed through a mixture of coursework, portfolio of evidence, multiple choice theory examination and practical assessments.

University opportunities
Past students have progressed foundation degrees in personal training, strength and conditioning, sport and exercise (injury management) and adventure sports leadership.


Career opportunities
Career opportunities include personal training, outdoor instructors, outdoor leaders, education and sports science.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
