Overview

The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction and the Built Environment is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals, able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.

This programme is IoT (Institute of Technology) recognised, guaranteeing you outstanding technical training.

The first year of studies will consist of the following units:
• Individual Project - Construction Technology - Construction Practice & Management
• Legal and Statutory Responsibilities in Construction
The second year of studies will consist of the following units:
• Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing, Specification)*
• Building Information Modelling*
Plus 2 specialist/optional units TBC.

Entry requirements

Applicants will need to have:
• A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Construction and The Built Environment
• A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent)
• Other related Level 3 qualifications
• An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
• Related work experience
• An international equivalent of the above

You will be assessed through a variety of assignments and activities, with a focus on the holistic development of practical, interpersonal and higher level thinking skills.

Assessment reflects not only what the student knows but also what he or she can do to succeed in employment and higher education in an ethical manner.

A HNC award opens up a possibility of a career in a wide range of engineering disciplines including design, manufacturing, project management and IT. Successful students may also choose to progress to the HND Engineering (Construction and The Built Environment).
