Overview

The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to test your ability and advance your technical skills against the awarding body criteria and industry requirements.

You will acquire knowledge on how to quantify materials and price up jobs effectively and learn how to be competitive within the industry.

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication
  • Carry Out First Fix Flooring and Roofing
  • Carry Out First Fix Frames, Partitions and Stairs
  • Carry Out Second Fixing Operations
  • Carry Out Carpentry Maintenance
  • Set Up and Operate a Circular Saw

2 Days per week, days and times confirmed upon enrolment.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved 4 GCSE at grade 3 (D) or above including maths, English language and science.

You should also have a Level 1 qualification in a relevant trade area.

Progressing learners must also have a Level 1 Functional Skills in maths.

On-going assessment will take place throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills.

There are also a number of short theory paper based tests and a multiple choice on-line exam linked to one of the theory units delivered.

Successful completion will further enhance your employability skills and gives you the opportunity to progress to Level 3.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.Many people qualify for free tuition fees, for more information please contact Course Information on 01642 333333. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time students.

Level 2 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 2 qualification, the course is free if you are studying for an entry or Level 1 qualification (except Basic Skills) where a step from Basic Skills is needed in order to progress to a first full Level 2 course or this is a first full Level 2 qualification.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.

Construction

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
