This course is designed for students who to enter the building industry and want to learn intermediate brickwork skills and knowledge.

Modules include:

  • Know the Health and Safety Reg, Roles and Responsibilities
  • Principles of Building Construction Information and Communication
  • Interpret Working Drawings to Set Out Masonry Structures
  • Think Joint Masonry and Masonry Cladding
  • Build Solid Walling, Isolated and Attached Piers
  • Build Cavity Walling Forming Masonry Structures

You will study 11.5 hours per week.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a Level 1 Diploma in relevant trade. If you are 19+ you must have achieved GCSEs with a minimum grade of 2 (E) or equivalent including maths, English language and science.

You will be assessed through coursework, practical and written examinations.

This can lead to further study at Middlesbrough College with the HNC in Building Studies, or NVQ Level 2 or 3 if employment is gained with a bricklaying company.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances. Many people qualify for free tuition fees,

Level 2 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 2 qualification, the course is free if you are studying for an entry or Level 1
qualification (except Basic Skills) where a step from Basic Skills is needed in order to progress to a first full Level 2 course or this is a first full Level 2 qualification.

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
