Overview

The CompEx Dust EX05 & EX06 is used to exted the competence for craftsmen working on Electrical Apparatus for use in the Presence of Combustible Dusts.

Aims and Objectives

To give delegates a basic understanding of the use of electrical and intrinsically safe equipment in an area where there is a presence of combustible dusts.

At the end of the course you will:

  • Appreciate that electrical items can be a source of ignition that could cause explosion
  • Understand what is meant by zones, temperature factors, ingress protection codes
  • Understand how gas/vapour certifed equipment might be used in combustible dust situations (BS 7535)
  • Understand how BS 6467 part 2, IEC (or BSEN) 60078-17 and EN 50281 impacts upon areas of combustible dusts


Course Content

This ocurse is for electrical and instrument engineers, supervisors and technicians who need to develop and demonstrate their competency for working on Electrical Apparatus for use in the presence of Combustible Dusts. Content objectives of this ocurse include; characteristics of combustible dusts, area classification of zones 20, 21 and 22, concept of dust ignition protection, selection of apparatus, cabling, glanding and terminations and inspection and testing.

During the course, you will be taught around maintenance and remedial work. The deliver of this course will be a combination of classroom tuition, practical and online assessment.

Entry requirements

Certificates/qualifications – The candidate must provide evidence of their Electrical/Instrument apprenticeship, Electrical/Instrument NVQ Level 3, BETC Diploma or HNC, along with other relevant electrical/instrumentation qualification certificates on booking – this is a mandatory requirement from the awarding body (JTL), a booking will not be confirmed until this information is received. Proof of a Gold Card from the JIB/SJIB will ensure the candidate is automatically accepted onto the course. Should the delegate not hold these qualifications or provide this evidence prior to the start of the course they will receive a Non-technical certificate. A working knowledge and experience of electrical installation and inspection is required. Along with the qualifications, the candidate must also be a practising electrical/instrument craftsperson. Previous CompEx Ex01 to Ex04 qualification would be advantageous.

  • JTL Candidate Competency Letter – The candidate’s employer must complete the JTL candidate competency letter and print on company letterhead. This must be emailed to us on booking and the original brought on the first day of the course. This does not apply to Self-employed delegates.

  • JTL Registration form – This must be completed and returned on booking; photographic identification (ie passport / photo driving licence) should be brought to the course.

For all the above original documents must be produced on the first day of training.

All personnel attending the course should have a good understanding of the English Language and Technical Engineering terminal.

Each candidate is required to demonstrate competence through an on-line multi-choice question paper test and a series of practical tests. Please allow up to 6 weeks for your results to be available.

Successful delegates will receive a UK JTL Certificate of Core Competence valid for 5 years.

Please note, the certificate will expire in 5 years from the date of issue and it is recommended that the 2-day CompEx Dust course is taken at least 3 months before the day.

£640. Please note this course is full cost and therefore learners are unable to get any fee remission.
