This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the principles of end of life care, including knowledge of:

  • the definition of end of life care
  • approaches to end of life care
  • how to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs
  • how to confront issues of death and bereavement.

This qualification consists of 5 mandatory units:

  • Understanding end of life care
  • Communication during end of life care
  • Assessment and care planning in end of life care
  • Person-centred approaches to end of life care
  • Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care.

You will study around your current lifestyle, when it suits you. You should expect to be studying for around 5-10 hours per week.

Entry requirements

The course is delivered and assessed on line; those that apply will need internet access.

To achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of End of Life Care, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes of the units as detailed in the qualification specification.
Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of End of Life Care is internally assessed.

Successful completion of this qualification will help to support progression into and within a number of job roles within the health and social care sector.

You will need access to a computer or tablet with internet access.
