Overview

This course will develop your technical skills in painting and decorating. You will understand how to estimate materials and price up jobs and learn how to be competitive within the industry. You will produce your own stencils to create a wall of decorative effects, and learn how to hang a range of wallpapers in domestic and commercial environments as well as other traditional aspects of painting and decorating.

  • Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication 
  • Preparing Surfaces for Decoration 
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller to Complex Areas 
  • Applying Standard Papers to Walls and Ceilings 
  • Producing Specialist Finishes for Decorative Work  
  • Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms 
  • Creating and Applying Colour

September - June

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 1 vocational qualification. School leavers are not able to apply for this course.

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills.

There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice on-line exam at the end of the course.

You will be assessed through a multiple choice question paper and a practical assignment.

You can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or to employment through an apprenticeship programme.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
