This course is divided into 5 units:

  • Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
  • Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
  • Health and Safety in the fitness environment
  • Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
  • Planning and instructing gym-based exercise.

Due to the number of assessments you will be required to attend the course fully on a Friday from 9.30am - 2.30pm

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, however a general knowledge of the gym, customer service and some knowledge of how the body works is recommended.

The certificate in gym instructing has a range of assessments spread out across 5 units, these must all be achieved to fully complete the course successfully.

  • A 50 question multiple choice exam
  • A workbook comprising of 56 questions
  • Written Assignments
  • A session plan
  • 2 observations
  • A written evaluation.

Once the level 2 certificate has been achieved you are able to progress onto the following qualifications.

  • Level 3 diploma in personal training
  • Level 3 diploma in exercise referral
  • Level 3 diploma in sports massage
  • Certificate in circuits
  • Certificate in kettle bells
  • Certificate in studio cycling
  • Certificate in suspended movement

Sports students will learn theoretical based study in the classroom, whilst taking part in a range of sport and fitness activities. Taught by specialist tutors and coaches, many of which are ex professionals in their field, you'll benefit from fantastic facilities including an AstroTurf pitch, a strength and conditioning suite and a physiology lab.
