This course will be of interest to you if you are seeking to develop or advance your career in games design. The purpose of this course is to help you explore games design and related developments in this growing industry.

This programme is completed through facilitated, hands-on sessions alongside lectures and real-world practices using specialised industry-standard software and by completing a series of game productions. Specifically, you will study 2D and 3D computer games art, game narrative, 2D and 3D animation, assets, research, 3D environments, game production and interface design. Throughout the programme you will also be encouraged to develop your employability skills.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved 48 UCAS tariff points from an appropriate Level 3 qualification (NVQ 3, BTEC Award or A Level) as well as possessing GCSE or equivalent grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English and in maths or have demonstrated adequate skills and competencies in an interview.

Teaching methods will include a combination of lectures and practical sessions. You will learn the games design principles and apply them in purpose-built labs.

Formative feedback will help you to master the knowledge and skills to ensure you have a deeper understanding of the subject as you progress through the programme.

You will be assessed through report writing, practical work, examinations, case studies, presentations, research and project work.

This course is designed to provide you with the sought after professional skills and knowledge you need to enter the games design industry. Successful students may choose to progress to the BA (Hons) Games Design, a one year (Top- up) programme also delivered at the College, to gain a full honours degree award.

Fees payable directly to Middlesbrough College, £6,900 per year.
