Computing is an integral part of our lives, both at home and in business. This programme enables you to gain knowledge and understanding of real-world computing developments, and will help you to develop the necessary practical skills through work-related learning.

You will focus on networking and security, systems design and development, programming, web services, database development, project management, problem solving and professional skills. Throughout the course you will also be encouraged to develop your employability skills. You will replicate real world practices by using specialised industry-standard tools and completing an industry-related project.

Successful completion of this programme provides entry to the BSc (Hons) Computing (Top-up) so that you complete a full honours degree.

This programme is IoT (Institute of Technology) recognised, guaranteeing you outstanding technical training.

September to July, one day per week.

Entry requirements

• You must have achieved 48 UCAS tariff points from a Level 3 qualification (NVQ 3, BTEC Award or A Level).
• You are also required to have GCSE passes at grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English and maths.

Teaching methods will include a combination of lectures and practical sessions for each subject. Lectures concentrate on teaching the principles while practical sessions allow you to put these principles into practice in purpose-built labs.

Throughout your practical sessions you will receive feedback on your work and progress. You will also spend several weeks on a small-scale project to enable you to build a deeper understanding of the subject as you work. The feedback you receive will help you to get the most out of your learning.

You will be assessed through report writing, practical work, examinations, case studies, presentations, research and project work.

Successful completion of this programme provides entry to the BSc (Hons) Computing (Top-up) so that you complete a full honours degree.

Fees payable directly to Middlesbrough College, £6,900 per year.
