This course will explore a broad range of photography, including landscape, portraiture, fashion, fine art and experimental. You will be encouraged to use lens and light based techniques to communicate ideas visually. You will also draw on other artistic techniques, such as photomontage, collage and mixed media. Student will have access to a range of photographic equipment, including various cameras, a traditional darkroom and a fully equipped studio.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including maths and English language. Ideally an average GCSE points score of 5.5 or above.

Coursework based - Students keep a sketchbook (either a physical sketchbook or online sketchbook), design sheets, presentation, journal or similar to keep a log of how their ideas have developed throughout the course and how they have produced a set of carefully considered final outcomes.

For A Level students, there is 15 hour period of supervised time at the end.

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto a range of courses offered at Middlesbrough College, such as the BSc Audiovisual Technology, BA (Hons) Education, and the Fd/BSc (Hons) Games Design (top-up).

A Level Photography provides a good basis for creative pathways in higher education, such as photography, creative media and visual communications. Some students go on to study foundation studies in art and design to eventually progress onto other art based degree courses.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
