Tourism is a global phenomenon that according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation will be the world’s largest industry in the 21st century. This is still the focus despite the current impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in that they predict tourism growth in the long term will achieve over 1.8 billion of international arrivals (UNWTO, Tourism Towards 2030).
This course is designed in partnership with employers and industry associations to give you a solid theoretical and practical understanding of travel and tourism management enabling you to progress to higher level studies or directly into industry.

You can be part of this future by studying as part of your course. Gain an appreciation of other cultures and be aware and sensitive to the positive and negative impacts of tourism on communities and local economic development. Look at the modern challenges faced by tourism organisations, focusing on current and contemporary trends and developments so you are equipped with the skills to solve problems and implement plans and solutions to resolve them. Develop an entrepreneurial approach by working alongside key industry employers to build innovative solutions to real-life business challenges. Gain an insight into moral, ethical, and environmental issues allowing you to make a valuable contribution to the tourism and travel sector.

Entry requirements

• You must have achieved 48 UCAS tariff points from an appropriate Level 3 (NVQ 3, BTEC Award or A Level).
• You are also required to have GCSE passes at grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English and maths.
• Applicants with experience and relevant subject knowledge will also be considered on an individual basis.

Teaching methods will include lectures, seminars, online tutorials and virtual learning.

You will gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry as well as a range of practical, professional and key transferable skills required for graduate employability and lifelong learning.

You are expected to work independently and responsibly throughout the duration of your course. Your commitment is vital for success.

You will be assessed through reports, essays, projects, case studies, exams, individual or group presentation, group activity and a personal development portfolio.

To help you develop employment opportunities you will receive free membership to the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) for the duration of your degree. The ITT is a tourism trade association your student membership puts you on the road to becoming a professional Member - helping you to improve your career prospects.

Successful students may choose to progress to the BA (Hons) Tourism Management programme also delivered at the College, to gain a full honours degree award.

Fees payable directly to Middlesbrough College, £6,900 per year.
