We have developed a course that gives a basic understanding of the construction industry, delivered by tutors who have work experience within the sector.

Learners will achieve an L1 Certificate in Occupational Studies for the Workplace
Plus a L1 Award Employment, Training and Personal Development.

The course offers experience of the following skills, within a practical hands-on environment:

• Developing Bricklaying Skills
• Using painting skills for interior ceilings and walls
• Introduction to plastering techniques
• Floor and wall tiling techniques
• Highfield Health and Safety in Construction training
• CSCS card revision and practice tests
• Job interview techniques and skills, CV writing, personal presentation.
• We will cover the cost of all cards/licenses to enable the learner to go into work.

Successful candidates will be funded for the CITB CSCS Green Card test.

All candidates will also receive support with CV and interview skills, and job interview prep.

Entry requirements

• Must be unemployed and aged over 16 years (as at 31.08.19)

• ID Requirements: In order to sit test for CSCS card, candidates must be able to provide one form of primary ID containing a photograph and signature e.g. Passport/ Driving Licence etc. Please see link below for more info.


• Customers must complete an initial English & Maths assessment prior to enrolment.

• Customers must bring proof of the benefit to IAG session Enrolment cannot be completed without sight of this information.

Practical sessions and workbooks to complete.

Remission of fees available if unemployed and not in education or training.

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
