Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years.

Whilst completing this course you will cover 14 mandatory units which cover:  Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner. Health and Safety of babies and young children.  Equality and Diversity.  Safeguarding.  Child development.  Care routines for babies and young children. Planning and delivering of activities.  Promoting play in an early years setting. Supporting babies and young children’s well-being.  Support babies and young children to be physically active.  Support the needs of babies and young children with special education needs.  Positive behaviour.  Partnership working and supporting the needs of children in preparing for school.
It is a requirement of this course that you also undertake a practical placement within an early years setting completing 250 hours.

14th September 2021 and 26th April 2022 1.5hr weekly college sessions, Tuesday 1.00-2.30pm. 2 days in placement (250hrs minimum placement hours)

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a minimum of a L1 functional skills English and also have basic computer skills. You will be required to complete a satisfactory Enhanced Disclose and Barring Service (DBS check).

A variety of assessment methods will be used which include assignment work, reflective accounts and work products along with observation of practical performance.
An assessor will support you for the duration of your course and help you to build a portfolio of evidence using an e-portfolio (SMART assessor).

This qualification allows you to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner within the Early Years Workforce. You may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:
• nursery practitioner
• classroom assistant
• pre-school practitioner.
To progress onto the Learners Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification you must have a level 2 functional skills English qualification or GCSE. 

£791 Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course. If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
