This course prepares you for employment in the health and social care sector or for progression to higher education. You will study nine different units across the health and social care sector including equality and diversity, development through the life stages, safeguarding, communication, inflection prevention and control, psychology, sociology, working in the sector and reflective practice. You will also undertake a mandatory work placement to develop your skills and knowledge within the sector, gaining a minimum of 100 hours work experience. Upon course completion this course will provide 36 – 84 UCAS points.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above, including English or maths. If progressing from level 2 health and care you need a grade B overall as a minimum from your Level 2 Health and Care studies.

Each unit is coursework based with a variety of assessment methods, graded from D – A*. In total your coursework contributes to 66% of your overall mark.

There is a controlled synoptic assessment in January 2019 that is 33% of your overall mark.

You can progress to employment or study higher education at Level 4 and above.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
