This course will develop your technical skills in painting and decorating. You will produce specialist decorative effects and install centre pieces, coving and hang specialist
wall coverings as well as all other traditional aspects of painting and decorating.
You will also develop your skills in technical drawing, airless and high volume low pressure spray systems, marble and wood grain effects.

September - June

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 qualification and five GCSEs at grade 4/5 (C) or above. If you have a grade 3 (D) or below in GCSE English and/ or maths you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme. School leavers are not able to apply for this course.

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills.

There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice on-line exam at the end of the course.

You will be assessed through a multiple choice question paper and a practical assignment.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to higher education courses such as the ONC / HNC Building Studies which can lead to supervisory and management positions within the construction industry. You can use the skills that you have learned on this course to move to another trade area at the same or higher level.

You could also progress onto an apprenticeship programme if you have an employer where you would be paid for working and still attend college for one day per week.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
