Overview

This course is a practical competency based course designed to introduce learners to the practical skills elements of workshops including bench fitting, lathes and milling machines.

Turning operations will include setting up the lathe with cutting speeds and cutting tools to produce work within marked tolerances and recognize defects. Milling will be carried out to working specification involving horizontal and vertical milling techniques.

The course will also include a portfolio of evidence demonstrating health and safety, efficiency in engineering activities and reading and interpreting from engineering drawings.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence and practical test pieces.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances. Many people qualify for free tuition fees, for more information please contact Course Information on 01642 333333.
