This qualification replaces the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services for those working in children’s homes.

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (QCF) serves as the required qualification under The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015. The diploma is fully compliant with the Health and Social Care National Occupation Standards approved by Skills for Care & Development.

This is a knowledge and competence qualification, for the delivery of knowledge, you will attend taught sessions in the college for up to 3 hours per week over 30 weeks. The competence outcomes of the qualification will be assessed in the work place by a college assessor. Delivery of the knowledge component of the programme will take place in class room environment and on line via access to a virtual learning environment (VLE).

Entry requirements

Students should be at least 19 years old, there are no formal entry requirements but the college must carry out an initial assessment prior to the start of their programme to ensure that the candidate is entered for an appropriate type and level of qualification.

The Level 5 diploma is for experienced workers who are working in the role of deputy or manager in an appropriate setting or they must have the opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles.

As part of this course involves assessor observations in the work place you will need permission from your employer to enroll onto this course.

You will be continuously assessed through assessor observation, witness statement, expert witness statement, work products, reflective account, case studies, professional discussion, written questions, oral questions, written assignments and tasks.

You can progress onto a degree in a related discipline.

Our students follow careers as registered residential childcare managers, deputies and assistant managers in adult or children and young people’s social care settings (further professional development/ qualification may be required once in post).

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee. For information on Advanced Learning Loans go to www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans/
