The course will introduce you to a wide variety of films in order to broaden your knowledge and understanding of film and the range of responses films can generate.

Production work is a crucial part of studying film.

Studying a diverse range of films from several different contexts is designed to give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and understanding of how films are constructed to your own filmmaking and screenwriting.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including maths. English literature at a grade 6 or above is desirable. Ideally an average GCSE points score of 5.5 or above.

Assessment is 30% NEA (non-examined assessment), 70% exam-based

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto a range of courses offered at Middlesbrough College, such as the BSc Audiovisual Technology, BA (Hons) Education, BSc (Hons) Sound and Music Technology and the Fd/BSc (Hons) Games Design (top-up).

You can also progress on to university, with many students going on to study Media or Media related courses, such as english, sociology, graphic design, marketing and journalism.

Students often go on to pursue careers in teaching, media production and journalism.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

All production equipment is available to loan from the college.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.
