This course will give you a basic understanding of what is required to work in the sports industry. You will identify the principles of exercise and fitness, taking part in leisure activities, identifying potential hazards and learning about the human body and healthy eating. You will also undertake voluntary work in the sport and active leisure environment.

The academic year is broken down into five short courses and functional skills in numeracy and literacy.
These include:

  • Level 1 Sports Leadership
  • BTEC Entry 3 Award in Sport
  • BTEC Level 1 Award in Supporting in Sport
  • BTEC Level 1 Award in Sport
  • NCFE L1 Award in Nutrition & Health
  • NCFE L1 Award in Exercise Studies

You will also undertake voluntary work in the Sport and Active Leisure environment.

  • Planning Safe Sessions
  • Improving Own Fitness
  • Basic Anatomy of the Body
  • Risks and Hazard Spotting
  • Taking Part in a Leisure Activities
  • Volunteering at a Leisure Event
  • Understand the Principles of Exercise and Fitness
  • Apply the Principles of a Training Programme
  • Functional Skills – Numeracy and Literacy
  • Planning Healthy Diets
  • Understanding Eating Disorders

September - June

Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications required.

You will be assessed through assignments, practical tasks, group work, voluntary work and other activities.

You can progress onto a Level 1 qualification, for example the Level 1 Sport or public service course.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Sport & Leisure

Sports students will learn theoretical based study in the classroom, whilst taking part in a range of sport and fitness activities. Taught by specialist tutors and coaches, many of which are ex professionals in their field, you'll benefit from fantastic facilities including an AstroTurf pitch, a strength and conditioning suite and a physiology lab.
