Overview

The Level 3 Diploma is for care/support workers that have some responsibility in your workplace and sometimes work without supervision. If you want to develop or demonstrate your skills, perhaps to become a senior care worker.

Social care is about helping people with a particular need, such as the disabled, the elderly or people with learning disabilities.This type of care usually takes place in the home, in a care home setting or out in the community, and can include anything from contribute to and reviewing care plans, administering medication, supervising staff. The course focuses on the core values that underpin all health and social care practice and the importance of promoting them in every aspect of care work.

The Level 3 Diploma has 32 UCAS tariff points for those wishing to develop and progress to higher education.

Entry requirements

You must have experience in health and social care and preferably be working in a senior role, involved in care planning and supervision of staff.

You are required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check). All students will attend an interview where you will complete an initial assessment to determine your suitability and support needs.

 

You will attend Middlesbrough College one day a week to complete the knowledge evidence. You will be observed in the workplace by a college assessor who will assess your performance against the assessment criteria of the qualification / unit.

Assessors will use a variety of assessment methods which will include assignment work, questions, professional discussion, witness testimony, case studies and reflective accounts. Assessor observations will take place in the candidates place of work.

All students will have an electronic portfolio, this will be used to submit all evidence which will be assessed with assessor feedback and guidance.

You can progress onto the Level 4 Diploma Health & Social Care, the Level 5 Diploma Leadership and Management (QCF) and Access programmes in Health Sciences and Social Work (QCF).

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.


If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.


Level 3 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 3 qualification the course is free. For more information please contact Course Information on 01642 333333.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
