The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer.

This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.

  • How to Programme Safe and Effective Exercise for a Range of Clients, the Health Benefits of Physical Activity and The Importance of Healthy Eating
  • How to Communicate with Clients Effectively, and Motivate Clients to Adhere to an Exercise Programme
  • How to Apply the Principles of Nutrition to Support Client Goals as Part of an Exercise and Physical Activity Programme
  • How to Design, Manage, and Adapt a Personal Training Programme with Apparently Healthy Adults of All Ages
  • How to Deliver Exercise and Physical Activity as Part of a Programme for Apparently Healthy Adults of All Ages

Friday 1.00 - 5.00pm

Entry requirements

You must have a suitable Level 2 Fitness Instructing qualification.

You will be assessed through worksheets, practical examinations, practical demonstrations and assignment.

You can progress onto the Level 3 sport course.


Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not yourfirst full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee. For information on

Sports students will learn theoretical based study in the classroom, whilst taking part in a range of sport and fitness activities. Taught by specialist tutors and coaches, many of which are ex professionals in their field, you'll benefit from fantastic facilities including an AstroTurf pitch, a strength and conditioning suite and a physiology lab.
