Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is designed for support staff whose role requires competence across a range of responsibilities.

The frameworks provide training for the roles of teaching, classroom and learning support assistant, special needs assistant and behaviour support assistant/coordinator.

You will also cover some specialist subjects that are relevant to your work role.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and Maths plus 2 suitable references. You will be required to complete a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check.) The course is suitable for those who are employed in school and wish to continue to develop skills in the role of a learning support practitioner. You are required to work either voluntary or in employment in a school or college setting supporting children or young people aged between 3-19 years with their learning and development. We recommend this is a minimum of 2 days per week.

Tutors/assessors will use a variety of assessment methods which will include assignment work, questions, discussion and reflective accounts.

You can progress to further study.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee. For information on Advanced Learning Loans go to www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans/
Please note any fee shown excludes any additional costs to learners for any necessary equipment, materials, uniforms or any visit/residential that learners are required to participate in.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.
