Overview

This course will provide education and training for you if you wish to pursue a career in health or social care.

It will provide the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification and allow you to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

You will study ten units one of which has a direct relationship to the mandatory work placement.

You will also study English and maths that will support progression and allow you to develop skills that are essential in the workplace.

The English and maths qualifications that you complete will be dependent on current attainment.

September- June
3 to 4 days per week in college, 1 day in work placement
Dates and times will be given at enrolment.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 1 vocational qualification and /or GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above.

If you have a grade 3 (D) or below in GCSE English and/or maths you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme.

Teaching will take place in the college where you will attend taught theory sessions, workshops and practical skill sessions.

Practical skills will be taught in the colleges mock NHS ward.

The skills that you are taught in college can be transferred to your work experience and your place of work.

You will be assessed via the completion of 2 externally examined units and 8 internal coursework assessed units. Coursework will include assignments, written questions, tasks and practical activities.

English and maths will be assessed via the completion of an externally marked exam.

On successful completion of this course, you can seek employment in the care sector or progress to a Level 3 qualification in health and social care.

To progress to a level 3 qualification you will need a satisfactory placement reference, overall achievement with high grades and achievement of the English and maths that is included in your study programme.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
