The course aims to provide a programme of study related to the caring sectors that is suited to students who have a general interest in care and an aptitude to progress to further study.

It aims to broaden and deepen your understanding of careers in healthcare, social care and children’s services.

The course gives you the potential opportunity to progress to employment, with further training in a range of job roles in the caring sectors.

This course will help you to prepare for progression to higher level courses and you will also study English and maths.

A wide range of subjects are taught in innovate and practical ways, utilising the state of the art NHS mock ward, Childcare Suite and Physiology Lab.

Units include:

  • Introduction to the Caring Sectors
  • Health and Social Care Needs
  • Personal Care in Health and Social Care
  • Communication with Adults and Children in Health and Social Care
  • Promoting Healthy Eating in Care  
  • Creative and Leisure Activities for Adults in Health and Social Care
  • Learning Experiences for Young Children
  • Keeping Children Safe
  • Working in a Team
  • English
  • Maths

These are delivered by specialised staff who have experience of working in the caring sectors, so they can provided first hand information and insight into employment.

September- June, days and times will be confirmed at enrolment.

This is a full time programme with 4 days in college and a 1 day placement or independent study.


You must have achieved an appropriate Entry Level vocational qualification and/or GCSEs at grade 2-1 (E-F) or above.

If you have a grade 3 (D) or below in GCSE English and/or maths you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme.

There are a range of assignments for each unit. Assessed as pass or fail.

You will be required to complete an English and maths qualification and exam.

  • Level 2 Childcare
  • Level 2 Making Choices
  • Intermediate Apprenticeship Health & Social Care or Childcare
  • Employment

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
