Overview

The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to set out and construct roofs etc.

You will use advanced site carpentry skills as well as developing modern site practice and techniques and developing wood work machinery skills. You will learn and practice a range of advanced hand skills required for working with timber, including the use of hand and power tools.

Some students from the course will be chosen to represent the college at local and national skills competitions.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 qualification and/ or five GCSEs at grade 4/5 (C) or above. If you have a grade 3 (D) or below in GCSE English and/ or maths you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme.

You will be assessed through coursework, practical assessment and unit test paper and an online multi-choice exam.

You can gain employment as a site joiner or progress to higher education.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further education.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Construction

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
