Overview

A Level History has been designed to help you understand the significance of historical events, the role of individuals in history and the nature of change over time.

History will help you to gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. The engaging topics will provide you with the knowledge and skills you require to succeed as an A Level historian.

This course examines:

  • The USA, 1865-1975
  • Britain, 1951-2007
  • A Non-British Historical Enquiry to Bring a Chronological Range of at least 200 Years

September - June

Entry requirements

  • 5 or more GCSEs (not equivalents) including English and maths at grade 5 or above.

There are two 2 hour 30 minute examinations at the end of the second year and a non-examined assessment.

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto our foundation degree in Social and Public Sector Studies and then completed the BA (Hons) Social and Public Sector Development degree. Past students have also progressed onto our Cert. Ed: Education and Training qualification which is a professional teacher education programme that will qualify you to teach in the post-compulsory education and training sector. After completing this course students have progressed onto our BA (Hons) Education course. 

Most students go on to university, studying courses such as history, law and english. There are a range of jobs that history can lead to including teaching, political work, museum work, research and journalism – the list is endless!

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.
