Preparing for training and employment

Ignite is a new initiative offering exciting, practical courses designed to give young people (15-29) the skills to progress into employment, traineeships,  apprenticeships or further training. The courses include important life and employability skills as well as industrial based qualifications relevant to your career aspirations. 

Our 6 week programmes are bespoke to your individual needs, with continued on-going support with a dedicated progression mentor.

You will receive 1:1 guidance to look at the various training programmes available to suit your aspirations. Medium long terms goals will be identified as well as any barriers. An Individual Learning Plan will then form the basis of your programme of study. Upon enrolling on a course, you will be able to confidentially share any medical conditions and/or disabilities you have with our Student Services department who will be able to advise on the support available at the College. 

At the start of your 6 week programme of study, you will be assigned a personal progression mentor support you. You will attend small group sessions and 1:1 tutorials. The programmes includes team building activities, personal and social development skills, time management, budgeting, digital skills for employment, CV sessions, interview preparation, job searching, job applications, LinkedIn, awareness of social media plus many more.

In addition, each person will get the opportunity to attend other sector specific industrial based qualifications and gain work experience. At the end of the 6 week programme, a celebration graduation ceremony will take place.

Continued 1:1 appointments to support individuals with progression into education, employment or training will take place. Individuals can also continue to access the Job Shop facilities to job search, apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.
