Tony was appointed to the Governing Body on the 1 January 2018, and has also joined the Corporate Services Committee.
Tony Parkinson has worked in local government in Middlesbrough for more than 25 years, starting out as a Trainee Finance Technician in 1990.
Since that time, Tony has risen through the ranks in a variety of roles covering most aspects of Council activity, spending the last 14 years at Chief Officer level.
As the authority’s Executive Director of Commercial and Corporate Services, Tony led the Council’s Change Programme, which addressed the impact of austerity on Council finances and produced savings of more than £70m over a five-year period.
In 2017, Tony spearheaded the launch of the town’s Investment Prospectus, which is targeting more than £700 million of inward investment to cement Middlesbrough’s place as the city heart of the Tees Valley.
Tony was appointed interim Chief Executive of Middlesbrough Council in August 2016, and was appointed to the role in a permanent capacity in July 2017.
Tony was born in Stockton-on-Tees and continues to live locally.
