Makeup marvel made up with award win

A talented young hair and makeup artist has pipped her peers to a hotly contested regional award.

Leila Pryszlak from Chester-le-Street won first place in the “Vintage Hollywood Glamour” category at the North East Inter-College Skills Competition in Hartlepool.

The 17-year-old Middlesbrough College student secured first place for her creation at the inter-college competition which sees hair and makeup artists go head-to-head as they show off their skills.

Leila, who is a Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup student at Middlesbrough College, impressed judges with her classic Hollywood hair and makeup look.

Her creation was presented on the competition floor among others from neighbouring North East colleges.

Leila said: “I was thrilled to win the award, especially with so many talented hair and makeup artists in the running.

“I’ve worked really hard on the Level 3 course, and my tutors at Middlesbrough College have been fantastic.”

Leila also has a passion for special effects makeup and has ambitions to work on a live film or TV set.

She recently attended a seminar with ITV’s head makeup designer Jessica Taylor who talked to students at Middlesbrough College about life on set.

Heather Ferguson, Level 2 & 3 Hair and Media Makeup course leader, said: “We are extremely proud of Leila and her achievements and we are excited to see what the future holds for her.

“She is an extremely dedicated student who is a role model to others in the college.

“Winning this trophy is testament to her effort and talent, and we know there will be many more successes to come.”

Hair and Media Makeup students at Middlesbrough College are tutored in theory and practical aspects of applying photographic makeup, body art, colouring and dressing hair.
