A Beautiful Life At Sea For Former Student Leonie
November 22, 2016
Leonie Jeffrey, a former Spa Therapy student, has landed her dream job aboard a cruise ship.
The 18 year old from Middlesbrough is now a beauty therapist hired by the on board spa company, Steiner. Her maiden voyage has seen her travelling to exotic locations including Australia and Hong Kong on board cruise ship Carnival Legend.
Leonie, who has aspired to travel and see the world from a young age, credited the College for helping her achieve her dreams.
“Having always had an interest in massage therapy, I was so excited to start my final year in College studying Spa Therapy.” she said.
“My tutor Sandie was so supportive and really patient with us. She taught us everything we need to know and so much more.
“My favourite aspect of the course was how often we got to work with real clients. The Spa Evenings for ladies were very popular. Customers would get a spa wrap and lovely treats, plus access to all of the facilities in College including the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
“Six months after qualifying and I am having the most amazing time on board Carnival Legend. I get to do something I love, see the world and meet new people!
“My training was hard and it can be difficult working on a ship but everything has been worth it. There’s one person I’d like to thank for helping me along the way and that would be my tutor Sandie who supported and encouraged me to succeed.
“Anything's possible if you work hard, be determined and think positive.”
Located at the top of the ship, Leonie is based in Spa Carnival, which offers premium beauty and wellness therapies, like hot stone massages, aromatherapy and full-body wraps.
Service Industries teaching and learning mentor Sandie Owens said it was always a pleasure to hear of former students going on to achieve their career ambitions.
“Every year we invite employers to the College to discuss careers in beauty therapy during industry week. After listening to a presentation from Steiner, Leonie knew this was the industry for her, and I’m thrilled to hear that they have offered her a contract.” she said.
“Well done to Leonie – she’s an inspiration to all of our beauty therapy students currently completing their qualifications.”
