You are in School and the only thing that you can think about is what lesson is next or maybe you are at the stage where you are going to choose your GCSE options – most pupils make this decision by finding out what their friends are doing and trying to get into the same class!
Well stop, and think for a minute, what kind of career are you looking for when you leave school? I know it might seem a bit early to decide what job you want to do, but if you can take the time to think about it for a minute, it might ensure you are doing the right exams for what you want to do in the future.
You may not have decided what job you want to do but you might have thought about the type of work you would like to do.
You might have family that are in the building trade and you are interested in that, or maybe you like looking after people and are thinking of working in health, or you might like doing peoples hair and would like to go into hairdressing, or maybe you like working with animals and so would like to be a vet.
This would be a really good time to have a look at different college’s courses (prospectus) and find out what GCSE’s you need to have, to do the course you might want to do. For example,
- Many health courses want you to have GCSE’s in a Science at C or above.
- Electrical Engineering courses want you to have a GCSE in Maths at C or above.
- If you want to teach you must have GCSE in English, Maths and Science at C.
It is a good idea to think about this before you make your GCSE choices.
Three very important GCSE’s to gain a good grade in are English, Math and Science.
Other GCSE’s to consider are ones that you know you will enjoy because if you enjoy a subject you will most likely do well in it.
Most courses ask for a maximum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above for a level 3 course such as A Level or BTEC qualifications.
