Aimhigher

Aimhigher is a national programme which aims to widen participation in Higher Education.

Middlesbrough College supports Aimhigher, because we want to see more young people from Middlesbrough participating in Higher Education. We want those young people who believe that they are not capable, come from families with no history of going to University and from under-represented backgrounds and areas to think again and hopefully by getting the right support, choose to apply to Higher Education.

There are many barriers and limiting beliefs that restrict young people from thinking they can go to University even if they are academically capable of doing so. Further barriers include lack of confidence, low self esteem, lack of understanding of the process and perhaps coming from a background where University and Higher study is not really thought about or discussed as an option.

Middlesbrough College has an Aimhigher programme that is committed to raising the aspirations of learners, having a positive impact on their attainment and achievement, motivating learners to achieve their potential and supporting and preparing learners towards the next level of study.

Through Aimhigher you can access information advice and guidance on all things Higher Education including help with applications. For those in the identified Aimhigher cohorts we offer direct access to a project worker who will support you through an Aimhigher programme and curriculum of activities all relating to guiding young people into making an informed choice about whether Higher Education is for them.

We can provide access to conferences, University Open days, University visits, motivational trips, visits and experiences to add value to your overall college experience. This personalised approach adds further value and experience to enhance your personal statement if and when you apply to University should you choose this path.

We also offer very many more cross college activities that are often available to all of our Level 3 learners.
