New Student Rep for MacMillan Cancer Support
21 June 2012
Middlesbrough College student, Sherry Iqbal, has landed a fantastically rewarding job with Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sherry, 16 and a Health & Social Care student at Middlesbrough College has been successful in her application to become a Student Macmillan Representative for Cancer Support in Middlesbrough.
Her role as a volunteer will last for one year and will include responsibilities like being the link for Macmillan Cancer Support in Middlesbrough College and promoting the service and support that’s available. Sherry will also be responsible for promoting and organising fundraising events in college as well as visiting schools to raise awareness and provide information on Macmillan Cancer Support.
Additionally, Sherry will attend regular meetings with Macmillan’s Area Fundraising Manager to share ideas and plan events.
Sherry hopes to gain experience in working directly with people with cancer and offering support, whilst raising awareness of a cause that’s really close to her heart.
Sherry is particularly looking forward to organising a variety of fun activities within Middlesbrough College which will help raise much needed funds for this very worthwhile charity.
Sherry has lots of fundraising ideas but has never been in a position to put them into practice – well now’s your opportunity Sherry!
Sherry, who is currently studying on her first year of a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Care, is hoping to progress onto higher education and study Speech & Language Therapy at University.
Sue Duffield, Director of Programme for Health & Care said “Sherry is also an excellent Student Ambassador and performs this role with energy and humour. As a representative on the Student Council Sherry is a strong advocate for all students in Health and Care. Sherry is a great student who has a lot to offer the care profession.”
