Middlesbrough College Hosts Special Olympics Gymnastics Competition
23 July 2012
Gymnasts with disabilities travelled to Middlesbrough College from as far afield as Cheshire and Hull to compete with local gymnasts from Gymworld, Gymnastics Club.
The gymnast’s sprit and enthusiasm shone through with some excellent routines being performed under the watchful eyes of parents, coaches and local and national judges.
This was the first time that the fantastic gymnastic facilities at Middlesbrough College have hosted an inter-regional disability gymnastics event.
Local volunteer coaches, gymnasts and parents from Gymworld, Gymnastics Club together with Middlesbrough College staff and students ensured that the day ran smoothly.
The visitors from Cheshire and Hull commented that the event had been a huge success due to the efforts of the gymnasts and coaches and the fantastic volunteers who judged and help run the event.
Gymworld Manager, Craig Burton said ‘this is the first time that the local gymnastics community and Middlesbrough College have delivered an event of this scale for people with disabilities. The College has had great success over the years with students such as Joel Fitzpatrick who returned from last year’s Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens with two Gold medals. This event provided an opportunity for our local gymnasts to perform in front of their families and meet new friends from other regions.”
